The Safari Edition

Why The Safari

The Safari is a call to radical Christianity, not with guns, machetes or explosives; but with a radical love for Jesus, the neighbour, the unloved and the unlovable; a godly appreciation for self, and a radical stewardship for God’s creation.

The Safari is a call to prioritize our mandate (walk with God) beyond our mission (service to God); to establish every believer as a disciple-maker; to enhance existing ministries through intentional discipleship; to establish discipleship for the whole family; and to ensure integration, involvement, and smooth transitions for all age groups of the Church.

How The Safari Works

Individual Level

Discipleship at the individual level forms the most critical component of The Safari and is aimed at helping the believer in:

  1. Understanding the foundations of the faith.
  2. Encountering God through personal disciplines and habits.
  3. Experiencing and expressing the love of God to one another in the body of Christ.
  4. Participating in Service and Ministry in line with individual skills, gifts and talents.
  5. Living a life of purpose by engaging in an integrated mission lifestyle as salt and light in the world.

Small Groups Level

As the Chinese saying goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go with others”. Because the journey of faith can be challenging, believers are therefore encouraged and expected to walk and grow together through:

  1. Bible study
  2. Fellowship
  3. Outreach
  4. Care for one another, etc.

Congregation Level

The focus of the congregation meeting is to celebrate our faith. It is the culmination of our daily Discipleship walk. Discipleship at the congregation level will be experienced through:

  1. Systematic Teaching of God’s Word
  2. Spirit Inspired Worship
  3. Participating in Church Ordinances
  4. Engagement in Service and Ministry

Affinity Groups Level

Affinity groups will be designed for individuals of similar life experiences, concerns, or professions. These groups will provide:

  1. Care and support for one another
  2. Development of relevant life skills
  3. Forum to apply various special experiences to the service of God

Whole Church Level

Every so often, the whole community of believers such as the CITAM family will need to come together in joint gatherings such as conferences, conventions, general meetings, or solemn assemblies. This aspect of discipleship in the whole church gathering involves;

  1. Vision and mission building
  2. Inspiration, prayer and motivation
  3. Reviewing church governance and administration for accountability and effectiveness

The 5 Step Pathway

STEP ONE: ENTER – THE CALL TO KNOW

The focus of this step is to revisit the Foundations of the faith which Paul in

1 Corinthians 3:11 said:

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid,
which is Jesus Christ.

STEP TWO: ENCOUNTER – THE CALL TO GROW

The focus of this step is to grow through persistent and
consistent experience of God.

Colossians 2:6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live
your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith
as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

STEP THREE: EMBRACE – THE CALL TO BOND

The focus of this step is to grow through persistent and
consistent experience of God.

Colossians 2:6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live

STEP FOUR: ENLIST – THE CALL TO SERVE

Equipped for Service in the church and society,

Ephesians 4: 12
to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ
may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the
whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

STEP FIVE: ENGAGE – THE CALL TO GO

The focus of this step is to impact the World as salt and light,

Matthew 5: 13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how
can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except
to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the
world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light
a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and
it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light
shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify
your Father in heaven.
whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
